Code Blue Makes A Difference.......Again

On Friday, May 8th, someone was up to no good.

One of these persons had discovered a nice little prize in the form of a tractor parked in the 10100 block of Westpoint Blvd. This person decided that he needed the tractor more than the rightful owner. His plan was to steal the tractor and park it behind some trees in a nearby field until he could return to get it later. His actions would have to be covert, attracting as little attention as possible. Luckily for him, it was after dark, around 2130 hours. He started the tractor and pulled out onto Westpoint Blvd. He looked both ways and saw no one. No headlights either direction. He drove quickly up Westpoint Blvd with the headlights of the tractor off, so as not to attract attention. He came to the field, rapidly pulled into it and drove to a nearby stand of trees where he parked the tractor out of sight.

Although we're not sure of his actions, I'm certain he was surprised later to find that his prize had vanished. All of his hard work to steal the tractor had amounted to nothing. If he only knew, he was lucky to have gotten away with his freedom. While he was driving the tractor up Westpoint Blvd, he was being watched......by Code Blue.

Westpoint/Chapel Creek COP Group Captain Mary Ledbetter (the 2007 NPD 9 Patroller of the Year, I might add), immediately spotted the tractor as it drove rapidly up the street without headlights. She knew this was suspicious and immediately called it into her base. When she saw the tractor whip into the field and drive off behind the trees, she knew something was up. The on duty NPO, Ken Jacobs, was called and he responded along with patrol officers. When they got to the tractor, no one was around it. The Officers towed the tractor believing it was stolen.

Imagine the shock, and then the relief, when the owner arrived at his worksite the next Monday morning, found his tractor long gone, then called FWPD only to find that they had his tractor, safely tucked away in the Auto Pound.

He had Code Blue to thank for it..........

Excellent work Mary!
